A tree with deep roots can withstand a strong wind without falling. A tree with shallow roots, even a tall one, falls easily in the first storm. Humility is like a deep root: you can't see it, but it holds everything up.
The Bible says the reward of humility and the fear of the Lord is riches, honor, and life. Being humble isn't thinking little of yourself, it's recognizing that you still have a lot to learn and that God is in charge.
Think of a classmate who thinks they're the best at everything and doesn't listen to anyone. They might look strong on the outside, but when trouble comes, they fall, because they have no root. Someone who is humble, who accepts help and learns from others, grows stronger and stronger.
Jesus, being the Son of God, made himself humble and obedient all the way to the cross. And because of that humility, God exalted Him above everything. When we choose humility, we're following the same path Jesus Himself chose.
The root you can't see is what holds up the whole tree.
