Have you ever smelled a nice perfume or a special oil and felt your whole day get lighter? The Bible compares that good feeling to the sincere advice of a real friend.
The Bible says perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and so does the pleasantness of a friend's heartfelt advice. Good advice, given with warmth, does the soul good, just like a nice smell does the nose good.
Think of a friend who, instead of just agreeing with everything you do, warns you kindly when you're on the wrong path. That's not annoying, that's real love. Sincere advice, given the right way, is a gift.
Jesus is our best Friend, and He gave us the Holy Spirit, whom the Bible calls the Advocate, exactly so He could give us good advice in our hearts. When we listen to the right advice, with humility, our life gets lighter, as if it were perfumed.
The right advice, given with warmth, is a perfume for the heart.
