Eyes on What Matters

Day 17 · December · Proverbs 17:24

Today's Verse

“A discerning person keeps wisdom in view, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.”

Proverbs 17:24 · NIV

The Story

Has it ever happened that you were walking and looking at your phone or far away, and tripped over something right in front of you? That happens because your eyes were far away, in the wrong place, while what needed attention was right up close.

The Bible says the wise person keeps their eyes on what's in front of them, but the fool goes around daydreaming about faraway things, always thinking "I wish I were somewhere else" or "I wish I had what that other person has." But while he's daydreaming, he forgets to take care of what's already right there, waiting for attention.

Think about your family, your homework, your friend who needs help. Those things are right in front of you now. It's easy to keep thinking "when I grow up, I'll do amazing things" and forget to do the amazing things you can already do today, like being kind, helping around the house, paying attention to the person next to you.

Jesus was never in a hurry to run off somewhere far away. He would stop, look people in the eye, give His full attention to whoever was in front of Him, even with the whole world to take care of. He teaches us to live today, with what's right in front of us, without living only dreaming about tomorrow.

The treasure God placed in front of you is worth more than the faraway dream.

Today's Challenge

Eagle Focus

What's right in front of you today that deserves your attention? Whoever does this is today's Eagle Focus.

Family Prayer

Lord Jesus, You always gave Your full attention to whoever was in front of You. Teach us to do the same: to take care of what's already in our hands, instead of only dreaming about what's far away. Put our eyes on what really matters. In Jesus' name, amen.
