The Loneliness of Need: The Test of True Loyalty

Day 19 · December · Proverbs 19:7

Today's Verse

"When someone becomes poor, even relatives and friends stay away from them."

Proverbs 19:7 · NIV

The Story

Imagine you bring a huge bag of candy or a brand new video game to school. Everyone wants to be your friend, right? They all gather around asking for some. But what if the candy runs out? Or the game breaks? Most of those kids will go play with someone else. That's sad, but it happens. Those are "friends of convenience."

Today's proverb teaches that a lot of people only like what we have, not who we are. But a real friend, and Jesus is the best example of this, stays by your side even when you have no candy, no toys, or when you're sad.

Today's Challenge

Real friendship!

Think about your friends. Do you like them because they have cool toys, or because they're kind? Be a friend to people for who they are, not for what they can give you!

Whoever completes this becomes the Wisdom Guardian of day 19!
