The Balloon of Pride

Day 16 · March · Proverbs 16:18

Today's Verse

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Proverbs 16:18 · NIV

The Story

Have you ever blown up a party balloon until it got gigantic? It seems like it's the strongest one of all, but actually the little shell got really thin. If it bumps into a corner of the wall, POP!, it bursts and turns into a piece of rubber on the floor!

The Bible says pride is just like that air inside the balloon. When a kid starts saying: "I'm the best!", "I don't need help!", "I never make mistakes!", he's filling up the balloon of pride.

Then he stops listening to dad and mom, thinks he already knows everything, and ends up doing something really silly and falling down. POP! The balloon burst!

Our Father in Heaven wants us to be truly strong. And the greatest strength there is, is having the humility to say: "I don't know, can you help me?"

Letting the air out of the balloon of pride isn't weakness. It's the only way not to burst!
