Applause for a Friend

Day 14 · April · Proverbs 14:30

Today's Verse

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.”

Proverbs 14:30 · NIV

The Story

Imagine you're in a race at school. Your friend comes in first place. What happens in your heart in that moment?

There are two options. The first: you get angry, you want to say it was unfair, and you spend the whole day thinking about how your friend didn't deserve to win. That hurts inside like a thorn in the heart, and the race is already over, but you're still suffering.

The second option: you run up to your friend and shout, "Woohoo! You were amazing!" Do you know how your heart feels afterward? Light! Happy! As if you had won something too!

The Bible calls this envy: when we wish the other person hadn't won. And it says it hurts the body like a sickness. But peace in the heart, which comes from celebrating together with others, does good like a tasty medicine!

When you truly applaud, the other person's heart grows, and so does yours!

Today's Challenge

Owner of a Heart at Peace!

A heart at peace doesn't need others to lose in order to feel like a winner. It's already won on the inside!

Family Prayer

Lord Jesus, You were never envious of anyone because you knew exactly who you were. Teach our family to find our identity in You, so we can applaud others with a light and peaceful heart. Amen.
