Have you ever broken something at home and hidden the pieces so mom wouldn't see? When we do that, we spend the whole day with that "knot in our stomach," waiting for her to find out at any moment. That's trouble: it's awful to live with that weight!
The Bible says the honest boy chooses to tell the truth right away: "It was me, mom, I'm sorry." He might get a small scolding, but afterward his heart feels light and clean. He "escapes" the fear!
Whoever lies thinks they're being clever, but ends up tangled in their own lie, more and more afraid of being found out. Truth is the only path to peace in your heart.
The lie turns into a little monster that keeps growing. The truth is the shield that protects your heart.
