Sometimes a friend says something just to annoy you, calls you an annoying nickname, or provokes you on purpose. Do you know what that person wants? They want to see you angry, they want you to fight! It's like a little game: if you get furious and react, you just gave them the prize they wanted.
But the Bible teaches a wise-people trick: pretend you didn't hear it. When you ignore the provocation and stay happy, the meanness doesn't work, and whoever provoked you ends up feeling silly. This isn't being weak, it's being strong, because only someone truly strong can hold back the urge to strike back.
And when it's really hard, we can ask Jesus for help, because He was the strongest of all: even though He was insulted a lot, He never struck back.
Whoever provokes you wants to see you angry. Pretending you didn't hear it makes you smarter and stronger.
