The Trophy and the Heart

Day 16 · July · Proverbs 16:20

Today's verse

“Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.”

Proverbs 16:20 · NIV

The Story

Imagine you practice really, really hard, and you win a huge trophy at school or in a sport. Awesome, right? Getting good at something is great, and the Bible even says that whoever pays attention and learns well will succeed!

But here's something curious: the trophy, by itself, doesn't really make your heart happy. Have you ever seen someone who has lots of toys and is still sad or scared? The Bible explains this secret: paying attention and learning makes you successful; but the One who really makes your heart happy is God, when we trust in Him. They're two different things!

So study, learn, and do things well, because that's great, and at the same time, trust in Jesus, because He's the one who fills your heart with joy and peace.

Learning helps you do well; trusting God makes you happy on the inside.

Today's Challenge

The Two-Things Challenge

Question: what did you pay attention to today, and what did you hand over to Jesus? Whoever does both is today's champion!

Family Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching us to do things well and for taking care of our hearts too. Help our family pay attention and learn carefully, and teach us to trust You every day. We know that real joy comes from You, not from the things we achieve. In Jesus' name, amen.
