Step Away From the Trouble

Day 17 · July · Proverbs 17:12

Today's verse

“Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool bent on folly.”

Proverbs 17:12 · NIV

The Story

Have you ever seen on TV how a mama bear gets furious when someone gets close to her cubs? She turns into a total beast! The Bible uses that funny picture and says something surprising: it's better to meet an angry bear than to stay next to someone who's doing something really foolish.

Why? Because you can run from the bear and get away, but when you stay close to someone who's making trouble, you end up in the trouble too! You know when a friend wants to do something dangerous or wrong and says “come on, it'll be fun”? The smart choice is to step away right then.

It's not that we don't like that person; we can still pray for them and be kind. But sticking around during the trouble always ends badly. Whoever is wise chooses carefully who they stay close to.

When the trouble starts, the wise one steps away.

The Step-Away Challenge

Question: was there any trouble today that you managed to step away from? Whoever does this is today's champion!

Family Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving us the good sense to spot danger. Help our family choose well who we spend time with, and give us courage to step away when trouble starts. And help us always be the kind of people who do good, so that nobody ever needs to step away from us. In Jesus' name, amen.
