Wisdom Pill · Day 7

The Peek in the Jar

August 7, 2026 · Proverbs 7:25

“Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.”

Proverbs 7:25 · NIV

Before anything else: God loves you and wants to protect you. He doesn't sit around waiting for you to mess up so he can fight, he warns you ahead of time because he loves you.

Imagine mom made cookies and said: these are for after lunch, nobody touches them now. And you're there, playing in the living room, and the craving starts.

Then something curious happens. You don't decide to eat the cookie. You just decide to go to the kitchen, just to take a peek. Then you decide to get closer to the jar, just to smell it. Then you decide to lift the lid, just a little bit.

And then, before you know it, the cookie is already in your hand and you don't even really know how it happened.

Do you know what the most important moment of that story was? It wasn't when you grabbed the cookie. It was way back, when you decided to go to the kitchen just to look. That's why the Bible says not to walk near the place of the problem.

There are things we don't beat by fighting, we beat by leaving. When you notice a game is going to hurt someone, or that video isn't good, or that conversation is turning ugly, you don't need to prove you're strong by staying there. Being smart means leaving.

And if you've already taken the cookie, you don't need to hide out of shame. Just tell someone. God never fights with whoever comes close to tell the truth, he helps and cleans the heart.

Don't stay near what you don't want to do.
The Kitchen Guard

Challenge

Question: was it easier to avoid it than to resist it? Whoever makes a plan today is already the Kitchen Guard!

Family Prayer

Lord, thank you because you warn us before the danger, because you love us. Help our family notice the beginning of the wrong path, not just the end. Give us courage to step away when we need to. And when we mess up, thank you because you receive whoever comes back, without yelling. In Jesus's name, amen.
