Before anything else: God loves you and thinks it's beautiful when you're fair with others. He notices the small things no one else sees.
Has it ever happened that you split a piece of cake with your brother or sister or with a friend? Then you know a really funny phenomenon.
When we cut and choose our own piece, a weird kind of magic happens. Our piece always ends up a little bit bigger. We don't even do it on purpose, but the knife slides toward the side that favors us.
There's a brilliant way to fix that, and maybe you already know it: whoever cuts doesn't choose. If you cut, the other person picks their piece first. Notice what happens to your hand in that moment. Suddenly you cut it just right, right down the middle, with impressive care.
Do you know why? Because now measuring wrong doesn't benefit you anymore. And that's when we discover something about our own heart: sometimes we're only fair when there's no way to take advantage.
Today's verse says that God likes whoever measures right. He doesn't just watch the big things. He notices when you split the toy evenly, when you give back the extra change, when you count the score right in the game even when you're losing.
And the best part is that measuring right makes us feel light. Whoever secretly takes advantage has to keep hoping no one notices. Whoever measures right sleeps peacefully.
