Wisdom Pill · Day 16

The Friend Who Shows Up

August 16, 2026 · For the grown-ups to read with the kids

Before anything else: God loves you the same amount every day, on the day you follow through and on the day you forget.

Imagine your best friend says he's coming to your party. He says it with the biggest smile, hugs you, and swears he wouldn't miss it for anything. The day comes, you keep looking at the door, and he doesn't show up.

On Monday he hugs you again and says nice things again. Is he nice? Yes. But can you count on him? Not really.

Now imagine another kid. This one always comes, always arrives on time, never misses. But when he gets there, he pushes people, says mean things about your cake, and fights with everyone. You can count on him showing up, but nobody wants him to.

Today's verse talks about two things that go hand in hand: being kind and being faithful. Being kind is the warmth, treating people well. Being faithful is showing up, keeping your word. Either one alone falls short.

And there's one person who is both at the same time, always: Jesus. He loves for real and keeps every promise. He never misses.

Saying nice things is good. Showing up is better. Doing both is being like Jesus.
Family Challenge

Today's challenge is called Promise and Keep It.

At the end, talk about it: was it harder to promise or to follow through?

This round's challenge: Promise and Keep It
Family Prayer

Lord, thank You because You always keep Your promises and never miss. Help our family to be kind and faithful at the same time, to treat others well and to show up. Teach us to only say what we're actually going to do. And take care of us so we stay far from what does harm. In Jesus's name, amen.
