Before anything else: God loves you the same amount whether you obey the first time or only understand after you've fallen.
There are two ways to find out the pan is hot.
The first is Mom saying: don't touch that, it's hot. You believe her and you don't touch it. Done, you learned, and it didn't hurt at all.
The second is touching it anyway. Then you also learn. Except you learn with a burning finger and some crying along the way.
Notice something: both ways teach the same lesson. The pan is hot either way. What changes is whether it hurts or doesn't.
Today's verse talks about this. Some people learn from a warning. And some people only learn when they get hurt. Both learn in the end, but one of them suffers a lot less along the way.
When Dad or Mom warns you about something, it's not to ruin your fun. It's because they already touched that pan before you did.
And there's something beautiful in this: Jesus also warns us, all the time, with a lot of love. And when we don't listen and end up getting hurt, He hugs us and takes care of us.
