Before anything else: God loves you when you are quick and when you are slow, and he is never in a hurry with you.
Have you ever helped make a cake? There is one boring part: after you mix everything, the cake has to sit in the oven for forty minutes.
Now imagine you get really impatient to eat it. So you open the oven halfway through, pull the cake out at fifteen minutes, and cut yourself a slice.
What happens? The top looks like cake, but the middle runs out, raw and gooey. It does not get ready faster just because you wanted it to.
And here is the worse part: now that cake cannot be fixed. If you had waited, you would have had cake. In a hurry, you ended up with none.
Today's verse is about grown-ups in a hurry to get rich. It is the same as the cake. Some good things simply take the time they take.
And there is another detail, which is the most important one. When we are in a big hurry, we stop seeing what is around us. It is like running while looking only straight ahead and tripping over a toy that was right there on the floor.
Jesus taught something beautiful about this. He said that whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones. So you don't have to worry about the giant cake of the future. You only have to take care of today's little slice.
