Before anything else: God loves you on the calm days and on the days you get angry too. Being angry does not take his love away from you.
Have you ever seen a glass of juice with a bit of dirt settled at the bottom? If it sits still, the water on top stays clear and you can see right through it.
Now imagine somebody picks up the glass and shakes it. What happens? The dirt rises and the whole glass turns brown.
And notice something: the dirt was always there. Whoever shook it did not add any dirt. They only stirred up what was already at the bottom.
Fights work exactly the same way. Today's verse says something funny and very true: churn the milk and you get butter. Stir up anger and you get a fight.
Which means almost every fight has somebody shaking the glass. It might be one extra word, a face you pull, a poke, that nickname you know the other person hates.
And the Bible gives a very good tip for that moment. Another translation puts it like this: clap your hand over your mouth. Yes, with your actual hand.
Because in the moment of anger it is really hard to think. So it is easier to do something with your body: close your mouth, breathe deep, walk away and go get some water.
And look at something beautiful. When Jesus was accused of things he had not done, he stayed quiet. The governor found it so impressive that he was amazed. Staying quiet is not being weak. Sometimes it is the strongest thing there is.
