Before anything else: God loves you while you are still learning, and not only once you have learned.
You know when somebody is teaching you to ride a bike? They tell you everything properly: pedal, look ahead, don't stop pedalling, don't look at the wheel.
And you understand every single word. Not one of them is difficult.
Then you get on the bike and fall off. You get on again and fall off again. If knowing were enough, you would have been riding since the first explanation.
And then, on some ordinary day, something strange and wonderful happens. Your body understands. Nobody said anything new, nobody explained it differently. You simply got it.
And here is the best part of all: once your body understands, you never forget. You can go ten years without a bike, climb on one, and ride away.
Today's verse is about exactly that. It says God's words give life and health to whoever understands those words.
And the verse just before gives a lovely clue about how understanding happens: keep them in your heart. Not just in your ears, and not just in your head. All the way inside.
And do you know a beautiful story? Two friends of Jesus were walking home feeling very sad. They knew everything that had happened to Jesus, every single detail, and they still were not understanding any of it.
Then Jesus walked along with them and explained. Afterwards he sat down to eat, took the bread and broke it. And in that moment their eyes were opened, and they recognized Jesus.
They said something lovely afterwards. It was like a fire burning inside them while he was explaining.
