Wisdom Pill · Day 7

The One at the Window

September 7, 2026 · For the grown-ups to read with the kids

Before anything else: God loves you all the time, and his love does not change when you get something wrong. He stays beside you to help you get it right.

Have you ever climbed somewhere high and seen something that nobody down below could see? From the top of the slide you can see who is coming. Down at the bottom, nobody can.

Today's Bible story starts with a man looking out of the window of his house. From the window he saw a boy choosing a bad road, and he could tell before it even happened.

From up there you could see it. Down below, you could not.

That is why the grown-ups who love you sometimes say: don't go that way. It is not that they want to spoil your fun. It is that they are at the window and they can see further.

And there is another important part of the story. The boy was not dragged and he was not pushed. He was talked into it. Somebody said some very nice things and he thought it was a good idea.

That happens to us too. Somebody says: go on, nobody will see. Or: just a little bit. Or: it is not a lie, you just don't have to mention it. And right then it seems to make sense.

Do you know a really good trick? When somebody talks you into something very quickly, and it was something you already knew was wrong, that speed itself is the sign that something is off.

And look at what Jesus did. He was in the desert, very hungry, and somebody came along talking, trying to convince him to do wrong things. Three times in a row.

And all three times Jesus answered with God's Word. At the end he said: "Go away!"

Notice that he did not stand there arguing. He closed the conversation and that was that.

The one at the window can see further than the one on the street.
Family Challenge

Today's challenge is called The Window Eye.

At the end, talk about it: has there ever been a time when a grown-up warned you and only later did you understand why?

This time's challenge: The Window Eye
Family Prayer

Lord, thank you that you see everything from above and take care of us. Help our family to listen to the people who love us and warn us. Give us courage to say no when a conversation is trying to talk us into something wrong. And thank you for Jesus, who knew how to close the conversation at the right moment. In Jesus' name, amen.
