Wisdom Pill · Day 15

The Pause Button

September 15, 2026 · For the grown-ups to read with the kids

Before anything else: God loves you all the time, including on the days when you say something without thinking.

You know the pause button on a cartoon? When somebody calls you in the middle of an episode, you press it and the story waits, frozen, until you come back.

We have a pause button on the inside too. It is for the moment when somebody grabs your toy without asking, or a friend says something mean, and a cross answer is already on its way out of your mouth.

Today's Bible verse says that good people think before they answer. It is like pressing pause, taking a deep breath, and only then speaking.

And do you know who had to learn this too? Peter, one of Jesus' friends. Once he got so scared that he spoke without thinking. And from inside a cloud came the voice of God, talking about Jesus, and telling everyone to listen to him.

Jesus did not give up on Peter. Little by little, Peter learned to answer calmly and kindly.

Before you answer, press pause.
Family Challenge

Today's challenge is called The Pause Button.

At the end, talk about it: was the answer after the pause different from the one that was about to come out?

This time's challenge: The Pause Button
Family Prayer

Lord, thank you that you love us even when we speak without thinking. Help our family to press pause before we answer. Teach us to listen to Jesus first. And thank you that Jesus did not give up on Peter, and does not give up on us either. In Jesus' name, amen.
