Before anything else: God loves you all the time, and his love does not change because of what you say.
You know when somebody sends a voice note and straight away wants to delete it? You can even delete it from the screen. But the person on the other side has already heard it.
Today's Bible verse says something similar: you will have to live with the consequences of everything you say. It means the word goes out and does not come back.
So it is worth thinking for a moment first: is this sentence going to help or to hurt?
And here is the good part. If words stay, good words stay too. When somebody says I trust you, that sticks to your heart and gives you strength for a long time.
Jesus explained where words come from: "the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." It is like a full cup. If somebody bumps into it, whatever is inside comes out.
So the trick is not only guarding your mouth. It is filling your heart with good things: thank yous, prayers and words from the Bible.
And when we get it wrong and say something ugly, it can be repaired. You say sorry and put a good sentence in its place.
