Wisdom Pill · Day 21

The Toy on the Top Shelf

September 21, 2026 · For the grown-ups to read with the kids

Before anything else: God loves you all the time, and he likes it when we ask for help.

Imagine your favourite toy is up there, on the shelf you cannot reach.

There are two ways to solve it. You can call a grown-up and ask for help. Or you can climb on a chair by yourself, because asking feels embarrassing.

Whoever climbs on the chair sometimes does reach it. And sometimes falls, and knocks everything down too.

Today's Bible verse talks about people who are controlled by pride. Pride is that little voice saying: I do not need anybody, I already know everything, I never get things wrong.

And look at the story Jesus told. Two men went to pray. The first one said: thank you, God, that I am much better than other people.

The second one would not even lift his face. All he said was: "God, have pity on me."

Jesus said it was the second one who went home with a light heart.

It means God is not impressed by people who think they are the best. He stays close to whoever tells the truth about themselves.

Asking for help makes nobody smaller.
Family Challenge

Today's challenge is called The Champion of Asking for Help.

At the end, talk about it: was it easier or harder than you thought?

This time's challenge: The Champion of Asking for Help
Family Prayer

Lord, thank you that you love us just as we are. Help our family to ask for help without shame and to admit our mistakes. Teach us never to think we are better than anybody. And thank you for Jesus, who is strong and humble at the same time. In Jesus' name, amen.
