Day 2, so Proverbs 2... Verse 18, a simple paraphrase based on the GNT:
Some choices look inviting but lead down a dangerous path.
You see a colorful sign inviting you to play. It looks fun, but as you get closer, you realize the place is unsafe. The bright colors at the entrance do not show everything beyond it. Before going further, stop and find someone who can look after you.
Proverbs teaches adults to protect their marriage commitments and shows that an attractive choice can cause great suffering. For children, there is a simple lesson: an idea that looks fun still needs checking. We need to ask whether it is safe, truthful, and respectful of other people.
If someone invites you to do something that hurts another person, or says you must hide it from someone who cares for you, find a trusted adult. Even if that person seems friendly, you can say no and ask for help. If the first adult does not listen, find another. Protecting children and listening to them are adults' responsibilities.
Jesus loves you before you get anything right. His love does not disappear when you get confused or make a wrong choice. You can tell someone what happened and get help to learn. Marriage problems and adults' decisions are never children's fault, and children are never responsible for fixing them.
Golden phrase: "Before accepting an invitation, I can stop and ask for help."
