The Pause Button

Day 14 · July · Proverbs 14:29

Today's verse

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”

Proverbs 14:29 · NIV

The Story

Have you ever been so angry or in such a rush that you did something and then regretted it? Like talking back rudely, throwing a toy on the floor, or running off and falling? When we lose our calm, we end up doing something silly, because in the heat of anger or rushing, our head doesn't think straight.

The Bible says the person who stays calm is wise, really smart, and whoever loses their calm quickly ends up messing up. The secret is having a pause button: when you feel anger or rushing coming on, stop, take three slow, deep breaths, and only then decide what to do.

It's amazing how, after breathing, we think so much better! And when it's really hard, you can ask Jesus for help, because He stayed calm even in the middle of a storm.

Before doing something silly out of anger or rush, press the pause button and breathe.

Today's Challenge

The Pause Button

Question: was there a moment today when you pressed the pause button and avoided doing something silly? Whoever does it is today's Master of Calm!

Family Prayer

Lord, thank You that You stay calm even in the middle of storms. Help our family not to lose our calm over just anything, to breathe and think before acting. When anger or rushing come, remind us to stop and trust You. Give our hearts Your calm way. In Jesus' name, amen.
