The Economy of Words
The wise person understands the law of supply and demand. The more you talk, the less your words are worth. Whoever uses words "with restraint" (speaks little, speaks at the right time) creates scarcity, and therefore value. The fool floods the market with opinions and loses respect.
The Cool Spirit
Intelligence is measured by the temperature of your reaction. The world tries to "heat us up" (provocations, traffic, bad news). Whoever explodes hands the remote control of their life over to someone else. Whoever stays calm (an "even temper") keeps the power. Calm isn't passivity; it's contained strength that analyzes before it strikes.
React or Respond
Animals react (instinct). Intelligent human beings respond (reason). When you control your tongue and your emotion, you step out of animal mode and into wise mode. You choose the outcome, instead of being a victim of impulse.

This is a pillar of emotional intelligence. Brunet teaches that we can't stop a problem from knocking on our door, but we can stop it from coming in and sitting on the couch. Staying calm is the emotional armor needed to deal with difficult people. Whoever loses their temper loses their reasoning and loses their leadership. The expert governs his emotions so he can govern situations.

Whoever explodes says: "I yelled because he annoyed me." That's the victim mindset. The self-responsible person says: "He yelled, but I chose to stay calm because I govern my own emotional state." Controlling your words is the ultimate proof that you've taken responsibility for your results.
Jesus before Pilate and His accusers is the embodiment of this verse. Isaiah 53:7 prophesied: "as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth."
Jesus had the power to destroy His enemies with a single word, but He controlled His tongue and stayed calm to fulfill the purpose of the cross. Jesus's silence was more powerful than the crowd's shouting. Following Christ means having the strength not to answer in kind.
