Many people say: "It's my life, if I mess up, it's my problem." A lie. When you make an impulsive decision, break a deal, or destroy your health, the emotional bill lands in the lap of those who love you: your parents, your spouse, your children. The "foolish son" doesn't suffer alone; he drags his family and his team into the grief of his own chaos.

Validating the Mentor

Why does the wise son bring "joy"? Because he validates the effort of whoever invested in him. Whether it's a father who paid for your education, or a mentor who spent hours teaching you to build a business: the greatest joy you can give those people is taking the principle they taught and executing it with excellence. Your victory is the trophy of whoever shaped you.

Matthew 3:17

At the moment of Jesus's baptism, before any miracle, heaven opened and the Father's voice declared: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Jesus was the perfectly wise Son: he didn't seek his own glory, but submitted in everything to the Father's will, even walking toward the cross.

Romans 8:15-16

Through Christ, we were adopted by God. Today, when we walk in wisdom and integrity guided by the Holy Spirit, we too bring joy to the heart of our Heavenly Father. The victory of the adopted son honors the Father who paid the ultimate price for the adoption.

The Trail You Leave

1 Identify a person who invested in you (a father, mother, mentor, pastor). Ask yourself: does my current conduct honor or waste that investment?
2 Today, take a concrete action that becomes that person's "trophy": execute something they taught, apply a principle you learned from them.
3 If possible, tell them what you did. "I remembered what you taught me and put it into practice today." That's returning joy to whoever invested in you.

Your victory is never just yours. It's the trophy of whoever believed in you before you believed in yourself.
