Reflection
In Proverbs 8, Wisdom herself speaks in the first person. She climbs to the highest points of the city and cries out.
And the first thing she says is: “Listen!”
It's not a shy whisper, it's a call. Wisdom competes for your attention against a thousand voices screaming empty things.
And she presents two credentials: what she says has worth (“trustworthy things”) and has integrity (“what is right”).
1. “Listen!” — Wisdom Competes for Your Attention
The world is an auction of attention. Everything shouts to be heard: notifications, controversy, noise.
In the middle of it, wisdom also cries out, but she doesn't force herself on you. She invites.
You choose who you listen to. And what you listen to repeatedly shapes who you become.
The question isn't “what's shouting loudest?” It's “what deserves to be heard?”
2. “Trustworthy Things” — Say What Has Worth
Wisdom doesn't waste words. What she says has weight, has substance.
It's the opposite of empty talk that fills the air and builds nothing.
It applies to your own mouth too: not everything that could be said needs to be said.
The wise person speaks less noise and more content.
Your words are seeds. Every sentence plants something, it either builds up or tears down. Say what has worth.
3. “What Is Right” — Excellence Without Integrity Doesn't Exist
It's not enough to say brilliant things; Wisdom says that everything she speaks is right, straight, true, honest.
Eloquence without truth is manipulation.
The world is full of people who speak beautifully and lie. Wisdom unites both things:
what has worth AND what is right.
Your word is worth as much as it's true. Speaking well and being honest need to walk together,
otherwise it's just noise, well produced.

Many see in Proverbs 8 the Wisdom that existed before creation and cried out to be heard,
an early portrait of Christ. In the New Testament, that Wisdom gets a face:
“In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Jesus is the Word of God in person.
And no word has ever had as much worth and as much integrity as His.
The guards sent to arrest Him came back empty-handed and confessed:
“No one ever spoke the way this man does!” (John 7:46).
He spoke with authority because He said only what He heard from the Father (John 12:49).
His words aren't only right, they give life to whoever receives them.
The Wisdom of Proverbs 8 crying “Listen!” is the same voice calling you to hear Him today.
In the end, listening to Wisdom is listening to Christ.
And speaking what has worth and is right is letting His words shape your own.
