Some sentences carry more than their author imagined. When Solomon wrote that truthful lips endure forever, almost a thousand years before Christ, he was stating practical wisdom, but without knowing it, he was also prophesying. Because the Truth that endures forever isn't a concept. It's a Person.
The contrast in the verse is stark: a lie has an expiration date; truth is eternal. Everything built on a lie, no matter how impressive it looks, is already born with a date set for its fall.

1A Lie Has an Expiration Date
Every lie is a loan that comes due. It deceives for a moment, but it charges interest later. Truth needs no maintenance; a lie demands memory and more lies to hold itself up.
Whoever lies lives watching over what they said, afraid of being exposed. Whoever tells the truth sleeps in peace, with no versions to defend.
In the end, only what's true remains. The rest is just a matter of time.
2The Truth Has a Name
A thousand years after Proverbs, the One who was Truth incarnate declared: “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Solomon spoke of a truth that endures forever; Jesus said: that truth is me.
Eternal Truth isn't an idea you learn, it's a Person you follow. It has outlasted empires, persecutions, and centuries, and it's still alive.
Every lie about Jesus has fallen. His truth still stands today.
3The Truth Lives in Us
And here's the miracle: this eternal Truth chooses to dwell in whoever believes. “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Truth doesn't stay distant on an altar, it comes to live inside you.
And when Christ, the Truth, lives in you, you become a person of truth: words that hold up, a life without masks, a character that doesn't shift with the audience.
This isn't about trying to be more honest by sheer effort. It's about letting the Truth that endures forever live in you.
This isn't spiritual theory, it's what separates what lasts from what collapses, including in business and leadership.
Your word is worth more than a contract. When Truth lives in you, your “yes” is yes. Companies, families, and reputations built on truth withstand crises; the ones built on appearance and dressed-up numbers crumble at the first storm.
Integrity isn't never being wrong, it's never faking it. The true leader admits the failure, honors the agreement, and doesn't promise what they won't deliver. That generates the rarest and most valuable thing in the marketplace: trust.
A lie gives a short-term profit; truth builds what remains. A dishonest shortcut might pay off today, but it has a short life. Projects, brands, and relationships built on truth stand the test of time, because the truth that lives in you is the same one that lives forever.
Before Pilate, Jesus declared the reason for His coming: “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth”. And Pilate answered with the most cynical question in history: “What is truth?” (John 18:37-38), not realizing that Truth in person was standing right in front of him.
In that moment, the lie seemed to win. They condemned Jesus with false witnesses. The tomb seemed like the final word. But a lie has a short life. On the third day, Truth rose from the dead, and lives forever.
That's why Proverbs 12:19, written a thousand years earlier, was already about Him. Every false accusation fell; every empire that tried to erase Him crumbled; and the truth of Christ keeps on living, outlasting generations that never imagined Solomon or Pilate.
And He made a promise that changes your day today: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever, the Spirit of truth” (John 14:16-17). The Truth that lives forever doesn't just want to be admired from a distance, it wants to live in you.
